Latino Caucus Statement on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Ruling Regarding the Expansion of President Obama’s Executive Order on Immigration

November 10, 2015

(SACRAMENTO) – Today, Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, issued the following statement regarding the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling regarding the expansion of President Obama’s executive order on immigration:

“The U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision to delay implementing President Obama’s executive action on deportation relief policies is truly disappointing. President Obama has shown true leadership in developing a path towards immigration reform, regardless of the politics in our nation’s Capital. We must continue to advocate on behalf of DACA and DAPA individuals who truly represent the ideals of being an American. The Court’s inaction impacts our neighbors, our friends, and for some, our family members. Individuals who work hard, pay their taxes, and desire nothing more than to positively contribute to the success of our nation, will remain in limbo.

I’m optimistic that the Supreme Court of the United States will see past the rhetoric in Washington and view the work being done in California as an example of the compassion and success that can be achieved when we honor and respect immigrants by including them into the fabric of our nation.”
