As is customary every year, the California Latino Legislative Caucus announced its list of priority bills to tackle this legislative session. The 22-member caucus released bills with a focus on education, immigration, the environment, among other issues.

SACRAMENTO -- Denise Díaz woke up before sunrise to catch a flight from the Los Ángeles City airport to Sacramento. She had received a special invitation to attend Assemblyman Anthony Rendón, D-Paramount, swearing-in ceremony at the state capitol.

California Assembly members formally selected Anthony Rendon on Monday as speaker, vaulting the Lakewood Democrat to a position he could potentially hold for almost a decade.

Moving to designate a leader with just days remaining in this year’s legislative session, Assembly Democrats on Thursday voted unanimously to make Assemblyman Anthony Rendon their next speaker.

Speculation about a leadership change spiked last week when Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, circulated a pledge asking members to not hold a vote until next January. Term limits require Atkins to give up her Assembly seat in 2016.
