(Los Angeles) – The California Latino Legislative Caucus, chaired by Senator Ricardo Lara, held a community celebration with Governor Jerry Brown at the Pico House in Los Angeles to highlight the remarkable legislative achievements of the Latino Caucus. Assemblymembers Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens), Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego), Jimmy Gomez (D-Los Angeles), and Senator’s Kevin De León (D-Los Angeles) and Alex Padilla (D-San Fernando) were also in attendance. During his remarks to open the celebration, Senator Lara said, “I’m so proud to say California is not Arizona.

The California Latino Legislative Caucus honors Latino pioneers at the 14th Annual Latino Spirit Awards.  The 2014 Latino Spirit Award honorees were: The Honorable Curz Bustamante (Public Service), Sebastien De La Cruz (Dynamic Youth), Sheila E. (Arts & Entertainment), Judge Irma Elsa Gonzalez (Law & Public Service), Mario Gutierrez (Athletics), Ezequiel Peña (Arts & Entertainment), John Quiñones (Journalism), Danny Trejo (Arts & Entertainment), Cain Velasquez (Athletics), Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (Community Empowerment).

With 25 members, from both the State Senate and Assembly, the California Latino Legislative Caucus has 40 years of rich history of empowering Latinos throughout California. They work to identify, promote and advocate on behalf of the professional, educational, social, political and cultural interest of the Latino Community.

To meet the needs of Latinos throughout California, the Caucus has identified Education, Health Care, Immigration, and Economic Development as its top policy priorities.
