Across the country, there is a growing recognition of the role our criminal justice systems play in undermining the finan-cial stability of low-income communities and communities of color. While California is leading the nation on climate change and other areas, it is not immune to this problem. This briefing will examine how California’s criminal justice pol-icies tax the poor, exacerbating their already precarious financial situations.

Hayes-Bautista for a presentation on “El Cinco de Mayo: An American Tradition.”  Come and learn about why Cinco de Mayo – a holiday commemorating the Mexican victory over the French at Puebla in 1862 – is so widely celebrated in California and across the U.S. when it is scarcely observed in Mexico.  Dr.
