SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) and Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego), Chair and Vice Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, announced the Caucus’ 2016 priority legislation.

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, today praised the U.S. Supreme Court’s unanimous decision to uphold the principle of “one person, one vote,” which retains the current method of drawing state legislative districts that has been in place since the 1960s:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, led a ceremony today in remembrance of labor leader and civil rights activist César Chávez, who was born on this day in 1927. The Assembly paid tribute to Chávez, who cofounded the labor union that became the United Farmer Workers, by passing House Resolution 42, which documents his life and achievements. HR 42, authored by Assemblymember Roger Hernández (D-West Covina), received unanimous support from Democrats and Republicans alike.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, released the following statement today after the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors opted not to remove Planning Commissioner Kelly Wooster. Wooster was captured on video at a March 3 Planning Commission referring to “people from Mexico” as an invasive species during a discussion about how to eradicate and reduce the spread of invasive species.

SACRAMENTO — Representatives from the California Latino Legislative Caucus, Asian & Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus and the Legislative Black Caucus have written a letter to San Francisco State University President Leslie Wong urging her to not cut funding for the school’s highly regarded and ground-breaking College of Ethnic Studies.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo (D-Salinas), in his role as Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, has signed on to an Amicus Brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold President Obama’s executive orders allowing quasi-legal status, deportation relief and work permits for up to 5 million immigrants who entered the United States undocumented as children or who have children who are American citizens.

SACRAMENTO – Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) was sworn in to office today as the 70^th Speaker of the California State Assembly, and the fifth Latino Speaker in the state’s history.

SACRAMENTO – The California Latino Legislative Caucus today sent a letter to President Obama urging him to consider California Supreme Court Justice Mariano-Florentino “Tino” Cuéllar as a candidate to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Supreme Court.
