The 25th Anniversary of Proposition 187 - Thank you, Pete Wilson

The California Latino Legislative Caucus has released a short video to mark 25 years since the state passed a ballot measure designed to be one of the most oppressive laws in California history.

Championed by former California Governor Pete Wilson who was seeking reelection at the time, 1994’s Proposition 187 used the Latino community as a scapegoat for the economic problems facing the state. For many members of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, Prop. 187 marked the start of their political activism. This video, titled “Thank You, Pete Wilson,” is a letter to the former governor and shares some of their personal stories.
