CA Latino Caucus Denounces Supreme Court Rulings Dismantling Affirmative Action

SACRAMENTO - Today, the California Latino Legislative Caucus (CLLC) issued a statement on the decisions rendered by the Supreme Court of the United States in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard and Students for Fair Admissions v. University of North Carolina, which overturn the Court’s long-standing precedent supporting affirmative action in admissions at institutions of higher education:

California Latino Caucus to Host 21st Annual Latino Spirit Awards

SACRAMENTO, CA - On Monday, May 1, 2023, the California Latino Legislative Caucus will recognize Latino trailblazers at its 21st Annual Latino Spirit Awards during a ceremony at the State Capitol. The honorees will be acknowledged on each floor of the legislature for their significant contributions.

Prior to the ceremony, honorees will be available for media interviews at Noon in Room 444 in the State Capitol.

California Latino Legislative Caucus Celebrates Cesar Chavez Day

Sacramento, CA —Today, the California Latino Legislative Caucus celebrates Cesar Chavez Day. On Thursday in the State Legislature, Members of the Latino Caucus Senator Steve Padilla (D- San Diego) and Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria (D- Fresno) presented Senate Resolution (SR) 20 and House Resolution (HR) 23 to proclaim Friday, March 31, 2023, Cesar Chavez Day as a day for Californians to observe Cesar Chavez’s birthday and as a day of public service.

SACRAMENTO— Today, Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes, Chair, and Senator Lena Gonzalez, Vice Chair, issued the following statement on behalf of the California Latino Legislative Caucus:

“We are heartbroken and appalled by the horrific mass shooting in Monterey Park claiming the lives of ten people and injuring a dozen more. The reports of further gun violence in neighboring Alhambra are equally concerning.

SACRAMENTO— El lunes, 5 de diciembre, la asambleísta Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside) y la senadora Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) prestaron juramento a la Legislatura del Estado de California, marcando el inicio de su liderazgo como Presidenta y Vicepresidenta del Caucus Legislativo Latino de California (CLLC). Sus mandatos de dos años comenzaron el 5 de diciembre de 2022. Los presidentes están limitados a un mandato de dos años.
