(Sacramento) - Actor, director, writer, musician and art collector Cheech Marin was among the honorees as the California Latino Legislative Caucus recognized Latino trailblazers at its 17th Annual Latino Spirit Awards. Best known as half of the satirical duo Cheech and Chong, Cheech Martin is recognized today as a preeminent Chicano art collector. Before the ceremony on the California State Assembly, he recorded an episode of “Look West” the podcast of Assembly Democrats. “We are part of, and one of the main threads of, the cultural fabric,” Marin says of Chicano art and culture. “Recently I’ve been given a museum in Riverside California to house the collection and it will be the first official international Chicano Museum. It represents us planting our flag.” Here’s more from Cheech Marin in this Assembly Access video. http://latinocaucus.legislature.ca.gov/
