Please join the California Latino Legislative Caucus for the first installment of our 2017 Speaker Series on Wednesday, April 26 from 12:00 noon – 1:00 pm, as we host distinguished professor Dr. David E. Hayes-Bautista for a presentation on “El Cinco de Mayo: An American Tradition.” Come and learn about why Cinco de Mayo – a holiday commemorating the Mexican victory over the French at Puebla in 1862 – is so widely celebrated in California and across the U.S. when it is scarcely observed in Mexico. Dr. Hayes-Bautista will explain that the holiday is not Mexican at all, but American, created by Latinos in California during the mid-nineteenth century. The event is being co-sponsored by Comcast and UCLA. Lunch will be provided (will constitute acceptance of a reportable gift), and a limited amount of “El Cinco de Mayo” books will be raffled to those in attendance.
RSVP your attendance by emailing Armando.Chavez@sen.ca.gov.
