Senator Hueso Issues Statement Regarding Trump Visit to San Diego

March 13, 2018

San Diego, CA – March 13, 2018 – California State Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, today issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s arrival in San Diego and visit to the 40 th Senate District:

“It is disheartening that Donald Trump is bringing his campaign of divisiveness to California. In his very first visit to our state since becoming president, Mr. Trump is proving that he has no comprehension of, nor willingness to understand, how our state thrives and leads the nation economically.

This week could have provided an opportunity for state, local and federal government officials to work together on issues that actually affect residents of the region every day – for example, stemming the flow of wastewater and raw sewage that continually pours over the border from Tijuana into San Diego County.

Unfortunately, this trip is nothing more than a political stunt and photo opportunity for Mr. Trump. It is my hope that, during his next visit to my district, he will take the time to notice the highlights of our binational cooperation, such as the San Ysidro Port of Entry, which is the busiest international land border crossing in the world. Perhaps if he views the area from his perspective as a businessman, he will see the incredible growth and vitality of the border region.”
