Latino Legislative Caucus Statement on Los Angeles Teachers’ Strike

SACRAMENTO – On behalf of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego), Chairwoman of the Caucus, issued the following statement in support of the United Teachers Los Angeles’ (UTLA) decision to strike:

 

“Today, the California Latino Legislative Caucus stands in solidarity with the 32,000 teachers in Los Angeles who will strike for smaller class sizes; more counselors, nurses and other classroom resources; and the future of our students. We commend the teachers for making class size an essential part of the negotiations. This strike is a measure of last resort but one that is critical to ensuring the teachers in the nation’s second largest school district are adequately compensated and have the resources they need to do their critical work for our children. We join all parties in urging a quick resolution that places the interests of our students and educators first.”

The California Latino Legislative Caucus serves as a forum for members from the State Senate and Assembly to identify key issues affecting Latinos and develop avenues to empower the Latino Community throughout California.
