Latino Caucus’ 18th Annual Latino Spirit Awards Honorees Available for Interviews (5/6)

SACRAMENTO, CA - On Monday, May 6, 2019 the California Latino Legislative Caucus will recognize Latino trailblazers at its 18th Annual Latino Spirit Awards during an Assembly floor ceremony at the State Capitol in Sacramento, CA.  Prior to the ceremony, honorees will be available for media interviews at Noon in Room 444 in the State Capitol.

 

WHAT:             The California Latino Legislative Caucus bestows the Latino Spirit Award honor on prominent Latinos in fields such as technology; journalism & media; literature; health & science; business, education; human rights; arts; public service, entertainment and advocacy. Established in 2002, The Latino Spirit Awards take place each year at the State Capitol in Sacramento to coincide with the state’s celebration of Cinco de Mayo and to recognize inspirational figures in the Latino community.

 

WHO:               The 2019 Latino Spirit Award honorees:

  • Cristela Alonzo (Comedian and Actress) in Achievement in Advocacy & Entertainment
  • Ángel del Villar (Founder of DEL Records) in Achievement in Business & Philanthropy
  • Albert M. Camarillo (Founder of the field of Mexican American history and Chicano studies) in Achievement in Academia
  • Dr. Carlos E. Cortés (Scholar of race and ethnicity and 2009 NAACP Image Award winner) in Achievement in Education & Media
  • Dorene C. Dominguez (Chairwoman and CEO of Vanir Group of Companies, Inc. and first Latina to hold NBA ownership status) in Achievement in Business & Philanthropy
  • Anthony Gonzalez (American actor and musician) in the Dynamic Youth Award
  • Zuleima Flores-Abid (Programs Manager at the National Alliance on Mental Illness California) in Achievement in Public Service
  • Antonia Hernández (President and CEO of the California Community Foundation) in Achievement in Philanthropy
  • Reginaldo Francisco del Valle, a19th-century California state senator who was instrumental in forming the predecessor to the UCLA, will be recognized in Memoriam

   

WHEN:          Monday, May 6, 2019

WHERE:        Noon – 1:00 pm          Media availability with honorees in CA State Capitol, Room 444.

1:00 – 2:00 p.m.          Latino Spirit Award Ceremony on the CA State Capitol, Assembly Floor.
