SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Latino Legislative Caucus will release a short video TOMORROW, Friday, November 1 at 7 a.m. to mark 25 years since the state passed a ballot measure designed to be one of the most oppressive laws in California history. The video message, titled “Thank You, Pete Wilson,” is featured in the third installment of the Los Angeles Times’ new podcast This is California: The Battle of 187.
Championed by former California Governor Pete Wilson who was seeking reelection at the time, 1994’s Proposition 187 used the Latino community as a scapegoat for the economic problems facing the state. For many members of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, Prop. 187 marked the start of their political activism.
