Latino Caucus Lauds Nomination of New Chief Justice for the CA Supreme Court

SACRAMENTO—On behalf of the CA Latino Legislative Caucus, Senator María Elena Durazo released the following statement on the Governor’s announcement that Associate Justice Patricia Guerrero has been nominated to be Chief Justice of the CA Supreme Court, effective January 2, 2023.

“Congratulations to Justice Patricia Guerrero on her historic nomination to serve as the State Supreme Court’s next Chief Justice. Given her legal acumen and extraordinary experiences, we know Justice Guerrero will serve us all well in her new position. We are also grateful to Governor Newsom for this meaningful appointment.  

As the first Latina to serve on our Supreme Court, Justice Guerrero continues to break records and barriers.  We hope that this nomination will further inspire residents across our great state to achieve their dreams notwithstanding their race, gender or status.”
