December 09, 2012

SACRAMENTO - Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Long Beach) Chair of the Latino Caucus released the following statement after learning that no survivors were found at the wreckage site of the plane that is assumed to be carrying three-time Grammy nominee, actress, businesswoman and Long Beach native, Jenni Rivera:

“I had the pleasure of meeting Jenni Rivera last year and was inspired by her humble and vibrant personality. After hearing the sad news that the remains of the plane were found and no survivors are expected, the Latino Caucus and I stand united at the loss of one of our brightest Latino stars and role models. My condolences go out to the families of all of those aboard the plane and my prayers join the millions of fans whom Jenni Rivera touched with her music. ”

Jenni Rivera was one of the outstanding Latinos recognized at the annual Spirit Awards at the State Capitol in 2011. Ms. Rivera was honored for her work with battered women in Los Angeles and for her ability to reach, move and unite international audiences through her music.

As a strong Latina she represented her family, community, and state at the national and international levels. Her passionate songs of perseverance inspired millions and brought a renewed interest and respect for her interpretations of Mexican regional music to the United States.
