Music Icon Pepe Aguilar, Nobel Prize Winner Mario Molina Among Honorees at Latino Caucus’ 15th Annual Latino Spirit Awards

SACRAMENTO, CA - On Monday, May 2, 2016 the California Latino Legislative Caucus will recognize Latino trailblazers in music, education, athletics and public service at its 15th Annual Latino Spirit Awards. Established in 2002, The Latino Spirit Awards take place each year at the State Capitol in Sacramento to coincide with the state’s celebration of Cinco de Mayo and to recognize inspirational figures in the Latino community.


WHAT: 
The California Latino Legislative Caucus bestows the Latino Spirit Award honor on prominent Latinos in fields such as business, public service, entertainment and sports. The 15th anniversary is taking place during a historic period in California when Latinos are leading both chambers of the Legislature. This year’s honorees include one of the most-awarded Regional Mexican music artists, the legendary Pepe Aguilar; Nobel Prize winner Mario Molina; and Southern California’s Porto’s Bakery, recently rated by Yelp as the number one restaurant in the Nation.

Members of the Latino Caucus, including Caucus Chair Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo (D-Salinas) and Vice Chair Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego). Keynote by Former Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa and the 2016 Latino Spirit Award honorees:
