SACRAMENTO – The California Community Colleges Board of Governors announced today that Eloy Ortiz Oakley, Superintendent-President Long of Beach City College, has been selected to serve as the next Chancellor of the California Community Colleges system. Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo (D-Salinas), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, issued the following statement:
“Eloy Ortiz Oakley is an excellent choice to serve as the leader of California’s Community Colleges, not only because his selection represents diversity, but because of Mr. Oakley’s outstanding qualifications and accomplishments. Mr. Oakley is nationally renowned in education circles for implementing innovative programs that have proven to help students succeed in college. With California’s 113 community college campuses assuming a more important role in the education of our youth and preparing them to succeed in the modern workforce, it was vital the California Community Colleges Board of Governors choose an extremely capable candidate. The Governors’ selection of Mr. Oakley is a testament to their confidence that he is the best person to take leadership of the largest and most diverse system of public higher education in the nation.”
