Sacramento – On June 9, 2025 Senator Lena Gonzalez (D – Long Beach) issued the following statement on behalf of the California Latino Legislative Caucus (CLLC) regarding the legislative budget agreement:
“As we reach today’s legislative budget agreement, cruel and unjustifiable attacks on people of color, Latinos, and immigrant communities are unfolding across our state.
“Now, more than ever, our budget must be a clear statement of unequivocal support for our hardworking immigrant workers and families, including their right to life-saving health care.
“Fewer immediate cuts to Medi-Cal under this agreement, and efforts to ensure that large employers are contributing their fair share to health care costs are steps in the right direction—but IT IS NOT ENOUGH.
“Immigrants contribute billions to our economy, they are business owners, parents, students, workers—and this is their home. They deserve better than a two-tiered system that punishes them simply because of their immigration status.
“We urge Governor Newsom and our legislative colleagues to stand with us and push back even harder against draconian federal immigration actions harming our communities—starting by protecting healthcare for all.”

Sacramento – El 9 de junio de 2025, la senadora Lena Gonzalez (D – Long Beach) emitió la siguiente declaración por parte del Grupo Parlamentario Latino de California (CLLC) con respecto al acuerdo presupuestario legislativo:
“Al mismo tiempo que alcanzamos hoy el acuerdo presupuestario legislativo, se están llevando a cabo ataques crueles e injustificables contra las personas de color, los latinos y las comunidades inmigrantes en todo nuestro estado.
“Ahora, más que nunca, nuestro presupuesto debe ser una declaración clara de apoyo inequívoco a nuestros trabajadores inmigrantes y sus familias, incluyendo su derecho a la atención médica.
“Reducir los recortes inmediatos a Medi-Cal en virtud de este acuerdo y garantizar que las grandes empresas contribuyan con su parte justa a los costos de la atención médica son pasos en la dirección correcta, pero NO ES SUFICIENTE.
“Los inmigrantes aportan miles de millones a nuestra economía; son empresarios, padres, estudiantes, trabajadores, y este es su hogar. Merecen algo mejor que un sistema de dos niveles que los castiga simplemente por su estatus migratorio.
“Instamos al gobernador Newsom y a nuestros colegas legislativos a que nos apoyen y se opongan aún más a las drásticas medidas federales de inmigración que perjudican a nuestras comunidades, empezando por proteger la atención médica para todos."
