California Latino Legislative Caucus Statement on Birthright Citizenship Supreme Court Decision
Sacramento – On June 30, 2026, Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus issued the following statement regarding today’s Supreme Court decision in Trump v. Barbara:
“Birthright citizenship has been protected by the 14th Amendment for more than 150 years. It is shameful that this federal administration would even attempt to strip away such a fundamental right in a country built and strengthened by immigrants.
“No president should ever have the power to decide who belongs in this country based on politically driven or discriminatory criteria. As the Latino Caucus, we will always fight to protect the rights and dignity of our communities, and we commend the Supreme Court for upholding this longstanding constitutional protection.
“Today, justice prevailed and the 14th Amendment stands strong for the people.”

“La ciudadanía por nacimiento ha sido protegida por la 14.ª Enmienda durante más de 150 años. Es vergonzoso que esta administración federal siquiera intentara arrebatar un derecho tan fundamental en un país construido y fortalecido por inmigrantes.
“Ningún presidente jamás debería tener el poder de decidir quién pertenece a este país con base en criterios motivados por la política o la discriminación. Como el Grupo Parlamentario Latino, siempre lucharemos para proteger los derechos y la dignidad de nuestras comunidades, y reconocemos a la Corte Suprema por defender esta importante y duradera protección constitucional.
“Hoy prevaleció la justicia y la Decimocuarta Enmienda se mantiene firme para el pueblo.”
