SACRAMENTO –On behalf of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, Caucus Chairman Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) today issued the following statement regarding news reports that U.S. Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III will visit Sacramento tomorrow (3/7) to make a major ‘sanctuary jurisdiction announcement.’
“The California Latino Caucus welcomes Attorney General Sessions to California, home of our nation’s economic engine,” Senator Hueso said. “California is the country’s economic engine in large part because of the hard-working immigrants who have built this state into the 6th largest economy in the world. Mr. Sessions, we succeed in California because of our diversity. The policies embraced by the Trump Administration and Attorney General Sessions would take us back to a dark time in our country’s history. Their policies are antithetical to the American Dream and to human dignity. We Californians will not go back. This Caucus helped pass the California Values Act last year to protect the safety and well-being of all Californians by ensuring that state and local resources are not used for mass deportations. The Latino Caucus pledges to fight with everything we have to ensure that all Californians are valued and all who contribute so much to our society are protected and treated fairly.”
