SACRAMENTO - California Latino Legislative Caucus Chair, Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo (D-Salinas) and Vice Chair, Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego), released the following statement regarding Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s release of his proposed state budget:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), Chairman of the California Latino Legislative Caucus and author of Assembly Bill 60, issued the following statement today in response to the DMV announcement that more than 605,000 licenses were issued to undocumented Californians under AB 60 in the first year of the historic legislation’s implementation. Alejo authored AB 60 in 2013.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Luis Alejo, Chairman of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, issued the following statement in response to reports that the Obama Administration plans to deport recently arrived Central American families and children, many of whom fled violence and extreme poverty in their home countries but have been denied asylum in the United States:

SACRAMENTO - As the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear oral arguments in a case that challenges the principle of “one person, one vote,” Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), chairman of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, issued the following statement in support of retaining the current method of drawing elective districts that has been in place since 1964:

(SACRAMENTO) – Today marks the first anniversary of President’s Obama announcement of the expansion of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA).  These programs were scheduled to place a hold on the deportation of approximately five million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. While today should have marked a first year of celebration, instead it marks a year of inaction and delayed promise.

(SACRAMENTO) – Today, Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, issued the following statement regarding the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling regarding the expansion of President Obama’s executive order on immigration:

(SACRAMENTO) – On behalf of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, Chairman Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) issued a letter to the Presidents of Comcast and NBCUniversal expressing their deep concern and disappointment regarding the decision to invite and allow Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump to serve as a guest host of Saturday Night Live on November 7^th.  The letter states:

(SACRAMENTO) – Today, Governor Brown signed Assembly Bill 1461, the California New Motor Act, authored by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego), Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), and Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento).  This historic legislation is also sponsored by Secretary of State Alex Padilla.

(SACRAMENTO) – Today, the California Latino Legislative Caucus is proud to announce the investment of $15 million for Immigrant Services funding for qualified non-profit organizations. This year’s state budget included funding that provides qualified non-profits with the resources to provide education, outreach and legal services to lawful permanent residents eligible for citizenship and immigrants eligible for deferred action under the President’s Executive Orders. This is a record-amount ever allocated in the state’s budget for such services.

SACRAMENTO - The University of California, Merced (UC Merced) is the country’s 12^th most diverse college campus in the nation, according to the “Most Diverse Colleges” ranking release by BestColleges.com. The ranking published focuses on diversity as it is a fundamental element of higher education and beyond. Students who are exposed to a wide range of racial and ethnic groups throughout their college experience are better prepared for the diverse workforce, which they will enter upon graduation.
