SACRAMENTO -- That status of Latino political power remains a big question mark today despite the elevation of Latinos as heads of the two legislative bodies, and having 23 Latinos (all but two of them Democrats) in the state Senate and Assembly.
SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, issued the following statement today regarding the vacancy on the United States Supreme Court and the potential candidacy of California Supreme Court Associate Justice Mariano Florentino Cuéllar:

Alejo authored AB 60 in 2013.

(SACRAMENTO) – Today marks the first anniversary of President’s Obama announcement of the expansion of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA). These programs were scheduled to place a hold on the deportation of approximately five million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. While today should have marked a first year of celebration, instead it marks a year of inaction and delayed promise.
