SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, today praised the U.S. Supreme Court’s unanimous decision to uphold the principle of “one person, one vote,” which retains the current method of drawing state legislative districts that has been in place since the 1960s:
SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, led a ceremony today in remembrance of labor leader and civil rights activist César Chávez, who was born on this day in 1927. The Assembly paid tribute to Chávez, who cofounded the labor union that became the United Farmer Workers, by passing House Resolution 42, which documents his life and achievements. HR 42, authored by Assemblymember Roger Hernández (D-West Covina), received unanimous support from Democrats and Republicans alike.

Alejo (D-Salinas), in his role as Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, has signed on to an Amicus Brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold President Obama’s executive orders allowing quasi-legal status, deportation relief and work permits for up to 5 million immigrants who entered the United States undocumented as children or who have children who are American citizens.

SACRAMENTO – Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) was sworn in to office today as the 70th Speaker of the California State Assembly, and the fifth Latino Speaker in the state’s history.
SACRAMENTO – The California Latino Legislative Caucus today sent a letter to President Obama urging him to consider California Supreme Court Justice Mariano-Florentino “Tino” Cuéllar as a candidate to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Supreme Court.
SACRAMENTO — The California Latino Legislative Caucus today thanked Gov. Jerry Brown for proposing a $176.6 million spending plan to fund expedited and expanded testing and cleanup of residential properties, schools, daycare centers and parks around the former Exide Technologies facility in Vernon.
The $176.6 plan will ensure all residential properties, schools, daycare centers and parks within the 1.7 mile radius of the Exide Technologies facility are tested and contaminated soil removed where lead levels are the highest and potential exposure the greatest.
