CA Latino Caucus Unveils 2015 Priority Legislation

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) and Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego), Chair and Vice Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, announced the Caucus’ 2015 priority legislation.

California Latino Legislative Caucus Elects New Leadership

(SACRAMENTO) — The California Latino Legislative Caucus (CLLC) has selected Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) as the new Chair heading into the 2015-16 Legislative year. The CLLC is currently comprised of 22 State Legislators—17 Assemblymembers and 5 Senators—and focuses primarily on improving the quality of life for families in California, with an emphasis on Latino communities.

Governor Brown, Attorney General Harris and Legislative Leaders Announce Unaccompanied Minor Legislation

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr., Attorney General Kamala D. Harris, Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins and members of the Latino Legislative Caucus today announced legislation to provide legal services to the unaccompanied minors arriving in California from Central America.

“Helping these young people navigate our legal system is the decent thing to do and it’s consistent with the progressive spirit of California,” said Governor Brown.

Latino Caucus Celebrates Senate’s Passage of Bill Erasing Prop. 187 From California Books

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate voted 33-0 in favor of Senate Bill 396, authored by Senate President Pro Tempore-elect Kevin De León (D-Los Angeles) and California Latino Legislative Caucus Chairman Ricardo Lara (D-Huntington Park/Long Beach), which will remove all unconstitutional provisions of Proposition 187 from state laws. The bill now heads to Governor Jerry Brown for consideration.
